If This Is True

Colossians 3:1 KJV
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Verses one through four of Colossians three deal primarily with a spiritual truth concerning Jesus Christ. The word "if" should not be understood to mean that the Apostle questioned the faith of these believers, but rather that he assumes their faith and springs from there onto certain responsibilities and reactions that should come as a result of it.

Of interest to me today is the emphasis on their personal responsibilities.
They should seek things above
They should set their affections
They should mortify their members
They should put off all these
They should not lie to one another
They should put on the new man
They should let the peace of God rule in their hearts
They should let the Word of Christ dwell in them richly
They should do all things in the name of the Lord
They should submit to their husbands, love their wives and obey their parents
They should do whatsoever they do heartily as to the Lord

We must not assume a posture of laziness expecting that if God wants these things in us He will have to do them in us Himself. We, who are risen with Christ, must take the initiative. God's Word expects it of us.
