Hebrews 3:13 KJV
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
I see in this the importance not only of faithful church attendance but of a regular, consistent and even daily fellowship with people of the faith and especially with the people of our own church.
The deceitfulness of sin is so powerful that without almost constant exhortation, encouragement and correction any one of us is likely to
Give in to sin and having done so
Be deceived by that sin so that
Our hearts turn hard and cold against the things of God
It is not merely enough to spend a couple of hours a week in church services. We need to have daily contact with our brothers and sisters in Christ so that
We are warned about sin before we taste it
We are turned from the sin before it can deceive us
We are helped to walk with God before our hearts get hardened
Our doom is spelled out whenever we decide we are strong enough to walk with God without the aid of others.
