That Good Thing

2 Timothy 1:14 KJV

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

  

Sometimes the vaguest of terms serves to emphasize the point of the passage. We are not told here what

is that good thing, but only that he is to keep it "by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in you."

·         Some commentaries say it is sound doctrine

·         Some say it is the Gospel message

·         Some say it is the office Timothy possessed as a preacher

·         Still others say it is the gift of the Holy Spirit Himself

I appreciate Gill who incorporates all of those into his comments from the verse.

God did not tell us specifically which of those is "that good thing" perhaps because all of those are intended. After all, which part of what God has given us is not a good thing?
