Always Hope

Amos 9:14
And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

Israel was in a devastated state. Their sins were such that God's destruction of them was very nearly entire. They were decimated by the Assyrians. God had pronounced it would be so.

Yet even in this absolute devastation God gave Israel hope. They would one day rebuild wasted places. Revelation has the names of these ten tribes not only present but marked, blessed and participating in God's will. In eternity their names will be on the walls of New Jerusalem[1].

The most wasted life, the one who has turned farthest from God and suffered the greatest of consequences for it is still, if he will but turn to the Lord, capable of being rebuilt and blessed.
