Galatians 6:3 (KJV)
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
But could he think himself something if he is something? Many people are considered to be something in this world:
- Some are wealthy
- Some are famous
- Some are leaders
- Some are courageous
Do they get to think something of themselves? The verse is not suggesting such a thing but declaring that men, all men, are nothing. We deceive ourselves to think otherwise.
Are some wealthy? They possess nothing but that it was given them of God. They possess nothing they will take with them in death and they possess nothing in comparison to the wealth of God.
Are some famous? So what. Fame is no great thing. It has no merit or value. Fame is amoral. The most wicked man may be just as famous as the most generous.
Are some leaders? All power is of God and He turneth the heart of the king whithersoever He will.
Are some courageous?Set any brave act beside that of God, who loved men enough to condescend to be one of us then die for not some but all of us, and that while we were yet sinners (and opposed to God).
We are, all of us, nothing without Christ.
