Matthew 21:2-4 (KJV)
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

The Lord sent His disciples for, not just an ass or just the foal of an ass but for an ass and her foal. And age had a reason, “that is might be fulfilled…”
The Bible is a book of details.
Newer scholars would like us to see the Bible in generalities.
- Doctrines that generally hold true
- Standards that are generally consistent
- Churches that are generally sound
Christianity, the modern professor would say, is to be generally practiced. They would think of any details as pushing the practice of faith into extremism.
- It’s ok to have women preacher’s, they would contend, so long as she was generally accurate in her message
- It’s ok, in their minds, to have divorced men in the pulpit provided his preaching is generally sound
- Any form of baptism, they would think, suffices as long as it is baptism
Not so, said Jesus. He was all about details, especially biblical details. He refused to come short on any detail of the Bible. He refused to go beyond any detail of the Bible.
So should we.
