Luke 8:16 (KJV)
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
Genesis 1:2 (KJV)
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Revelation 22:5 (KJV)
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness is the natural thing. Light must be introduced. It is the unnatural, rather, the supernatural thing.
Lights in the day of Christ were less likely to fill a room. I envision those who enter and see the light witnessing it being surrounded by darkness. The shadows that we imagine are the product of light are really the tenacious stragglers of darkness. In a dark room with a small light the darkness would appear to be the overpowering one. The light, no matter how small, would be welcome, as it stands alone in the darkness.
This world is naturally dark spiritually. Christians are but tiny lights standing against the darkness. We shine more brightly when we shine together but we are always surrounded by darkness.
This is why Revelation 22:5 is so significant. The new earth will have no darkness. It will be, just as evil will be, defeated and done away.
As hard as it is to imagine a world where the natural thing is light (because it is Christ), imagine that same world where the natural thing is righteousness.
