1 Samuel 15:11 (KJV)
It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

Samuel was a strong man, willing to do the hard thing and say the truth.

But Samuel was a tender man as well.

Many a person has judged a leader, whether he be a

• Commanding officer 
• Courthouse judge, or 
• Preacher 

for being harsh and hateful.

These judgments are based on decisions and actions made openly and without the benefit of witnessing the anguish of soul that only happens privately.

The next time you want to lash out at an authority because you don’t think their actions were unkind, try to picture them up all night in prayer asking for grace to do their duty well.
