1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV) How To Pick A Leader

1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
We in the United States experience such an amazing privilege; we elect our leaders from among us. But with this privilege comes an almost overwhelming responsibility; we elect our leaders from among us.
How are we to choose them?
  • Do we choose from among our friends?
  • Do we choose one who holds our ideals?
  • Do we choose one who has proven himself in combat?
  • Do we choose the one most likely to help us in our crises?
God put Samuel in such a place of conflict and then said, “man looketh on the outward appearance but the Lord looketh on the heart.
We can’t see the heart as God can, but that is where our focus ought to be. Whenever it comes time of elections, our responsibility is to study the heart of the man.
  • His morality
  • His loyalty
  • His spirituality
  • His integrity
These are issues of much greater importance than his stature and his popularity.
