1 Samuel 18:1-2 (KJV) We Get What We Ask For

1 Samuel 18:1-2 (KJV)
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
Samuel had warned Israel this would happen. Jesse was an elderly man, and an honored one. David was his youngest son. He would have cherished him as such. David was also helpful to Jesse. He not only tended the sheep but did so in such a faithful manner Jesse couldn’t have helped but be dependent upon him.
But Saul wanted David.
  • His music soothed the sullen king
  • His success in combat left the king secure
  • His own son, Jonathan, found in David a kindred spirit
And David was never allowed to return home again.
Sometimes we get what we ask for but have a lot of trouble living with what we get.
