John 8:6-7 (KJV) Nothing Much Has Changed

John 8:6-7 (KJV)
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Wow, how many times has it been that people have asked me a question I tried not to answer? Truly nothing has changed in all these two thousand years.
  • They asked a question meant to cause trouble
  • They asked the question despite it being obvious Jesus preferred not to answer
  • They asked the question and came under conviction by the answer
The thing they hoped to do did not happen. He did not condemn the woman. He did not set Himself up so people turned against Him. This thing only served to heap coals of fire upon their own heads. They left under conviction, ashamed and without a word to answer Christ.
