Psalms 62:5-6 (KJV)
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

I’m focusing on that word “only” as it is found in these two verses.[1]

I think of the word “only” meaning, “alone, by itself, without another.”
This is absolutely what the Christian ought to be aiming toward. We have such high expectations of others:

• Our family
• Our work mates
• Our government
• Our church

The fact is that each of these will disappoint our expectations, probably more often that not. Our expectations ought to only be upon God because He alone will meet our expectations every time. We wait only upon God because He only is all-dependable.

Interestingly, the Hebrew word for “only” means surely, firmly, truly.”
The Christian ought to be aiming not only to wait on God alone but also wait on God confidently. Because God is sure and certain, my dependence upon Him may be sure and certain.
