Jonah 2:4 (KJV)
Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
Jonah was a prophet. Though we know nothing of his work prior to the events of this book. We know that he knew his work was of God.
- He knew the commission of the Lord
- He knew the potential of his calling and
- He Knew he chose to turn from it
- He knew his consequences
- He understood his harm to others
- He accepted the judgment that God gave him
He called it hell. It wasn’t technically hell or else there would have been no escape of it. But it was terrible. Can anyone deny it? He said God had cast him out of His sight.
But as terrible as it was, as hopeless as it seemed, Jonah looked again toward God’s “holy temple.” It’s important to note that repentance involved the temple, the house of God, in the New Testament, the local church.
The only way to return to the Lord is to return to His house.
He could not get to the temple just then, but he could have a change of heart and desire concerning those things that mattered to God. As bad as it was, as hopeless as things seemed, Jonah looked again at God’s holy temple. And before the thing was done, God had delivered him.
Whatever you have done, however bad things are, as hopeless as things seem, look again toward God. Get yourself back in church. If you have never been there, get into a sound Bible preaching Baptist church.
- It may take some time to recover
- You may have to answer for some of your choices
But When you look again toward God and those things that matter to Him, you’ll find your path gets better- certainly better than hell.
