Job 10:4-6 (KJV)
Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,
That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,
That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
These are the words of Job to God. It is a plea, a prayer. In the previous chapter,[1] he had asked for a daysman, someone to come between him and God and lay his hand upon them both. Here he expresses to God his need, as he saw it:
- God could not see as man sees
- God could not die as man dies
- God could not feel the infirmities of man’s sin
I don’t take this to be critical of Job. I think he expressed a theological truth. This is the fundamental problem between man and God.
And the problem is solved, the prayer is answered in Jesus. He is the daysman. He is:
- God, who sees as man,
- God who dies as man,
- God who was in all points tempted as man
And because of this, He can touch both man and God. He is our mediator, our daysman. Through Jesus, all who come to Him find peace with God.
