Psalms 119:74 (KJV)
They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.
I am supposing in this reading of Psalms 119, that the penman is Ezra. He is a scribe, a man devoted to the Word of God, and he is a part of God’s movement of Israel back to their Promise Land.
- This was the will of God
- This was orchestrated by God and
- This had been supplied by God
But it has not been easy.
- There were enemies.
- There were obstacles.
- Gentile people opposed to the work as well as
- Jewish people who were not enthusiastic about the work.
In the midst of this, the Psalmist is assured that those who fear the Lord would be glad to see him for this one characteristic, “I have hoped in thy Word”.
Some people form friendships and loyalties around other things. Those friendships I desire are those around the fear of the Lord and our hope in His Word.
