Mark 2:6 (KJV) Just Sitting There

Mark 2:6 (KJV)

But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

Consider the lack of passion and what it is capable of.

Jesus was in a house so full of people that multitudes pressed upon the door. It is likely the numbers here aren’t what we imagine. Inside a home, if it was twenty people it would be a lot. Still, we would probably call this “standing room only.” As Jesus was preaching these four made a hole in the roof and let down their friend on a bed. This would have been no small distraction in its own right. But then Jesus healed the crippled man. Through all of this, “there were certain scribes sitting there.

The thing is, nothing can stir the heart that will not be stirred toward God:

  • Not a crowd
  • Not a commotion
  • Not a miracle
  • Not even the very presence of God

How we must ask the Lord to soften our hearts for those things that have eternal value.
