As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
One of those things that gives the Bible credibility is that it is written “normally.” In other words, while it records miracles and events beyond imagination, it doesn’t embellish the fact. The other so-called scriptures are so fanciful as to disqualify themselves in their simple lunacy. The account of the Book of Mormon, for instance, or the apocryphal books – these attempt to be supernatural in nature to the point of being, not beyond imagination, but beyond belief.
Here is a fascinating example of the normal style of this supernatural Book. At the time of the writing of the book of Joshua, Israel had not yet taken the city of Jebus, later known as Jerusalem. At the time of this writing, the Jebusites remained there.
At the time of this writing, but not forever.
The Bible later records that the city of Jebus was defeated in the days of King David. God supernaturally gave Israel the Promised Land in a most natural manner, little by little, one victory at a time.
God does the same for every believer. We would love to see God give us all we ever desired without raising a finger or having a care. He does work, and He does work miracles. But He does them a little at a time after much prayer and walking by faith.
That means that the challenges we still face to this day might one day be recorded as victories.
Take one more step, child of God. We’re not home yet.
