And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.
The tribe of Manasseh must have been huge because, even with half of their tribe on the other side of Jordan, Manasseh and Ephraim were considered a “great people” or large in number.
Recognizing themselves as population rich, they appealed to Joshua for a larger inheritance in the Promised Land. Joshua did not hesitate to give them more. But they hesitated to take it. It was going to be difficult to defeat all those chariots of iron. They wanted more land. But they didn’t want to have to work too hard for it.
Doesn’t that sound like a lot of us?
- We would like more than we have
- We think we deserve more than we have but
- We don’t want to risk anything to get more than we have
Joshua was only too happy to offer them more, but he wasn’t willing to get it for them. His answer was forthright and straightforward; “The mountain is yours. Go take it.”
The blessings God has for each of us are unique to us. And there are more blessings available to us from God. But those blessings come through our obedience to the word of God.
All of us may have all of God.
Just go get Him.
