A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
Psalms 37 begins with “Fret not thyself.” Though the focus is on not fretting over the “workers of iniquity,” I think the passage can teach much about not fretting at all.
I don’t know anyone who successfully lives without fretting. It’s difficult not to,
- Fret over trouble paying bills
- Fret over people taking advantage
- Fret over misunderstandings and the pain that causes
If we are ever to gain victory over fretting, we must stop fretting over what not to fret about.
There are two main themes in Psalms 37.
- God will one day deal with the evildoers
- God will one day reward those who trust in the Lord
The key to the passage, repeated at least three times, is to “wait on the Lord.”
Do you trust in Him? Then wait on Him.
Psalms 37:10-11 (KJV)
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
