Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
At first glance, a person might read,
Hopelessness in this passage
Perhaps the Psalmist is friendless. Could he have found himself in such a way that he has no one to stand beside him? Is there no one to support his cause?
Or maybe he’s cynical.
What? After having trusted the Lord and been a man after God’s own heart, has God left him without a helper in this world?
Could it be a challenge?
He is the king of Israel, after all. Is he charging others to step up to the plate and help him?
I don’t think it’s any of that.
The nature of man is to look to men. The Psalmist wishes to point out that no one can help.
Psalms 94:17 (KJV)
Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
This is where we often fall short. Rather than crying out for men to help, being frustrated that no one does help, or feeling helpless, we must learn to trust the One who has always been and will always be our help.
