He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
Words can mean different things.
This passage is clearly a prophecy of Christ. Verse after verse is familiar to we who are students of the Gospels.
But what is this?
· Did He not cry in the streets?
· Did He not lift up His voice and preach?
Are we not called to do the same?
The students of the past point out that, though Christ preached, and called others to do the same, Christ did not strive. He got into no arguments about the things of the Lord.
· He preached His messages
· He called upon souls to come to be saved
· He even rebuked error
But He did not dispute. He did not fight and brawl. He didn’t even debate.
As the authority He is, He instructed, He answered questions[1] He challenged, and He corrected. He never once allowed Himself to be lured into a match of wits.
While we can never match Christ, for we are not Christ, we can and should learn from Christ in this regard.
