Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron.
It would be appropriate, I think, to apply this verse to all religions other than Biblical Christianity.
- It would be true of pagan religions.
- It would be true of Islam.
- It would be true of liberalism.
- It would be true of the social gospel.
- It would be true of health and wealth preachers.
- It would be true of Catholicism.
It would even be true of the religions of atheism and agnosticism.
In every case, these religious teachings seek to soothe a person’s soul from the internal sense of impending doom: DEATH and what awaits on the other side.
Biblical Christianity faces the truth.
- We enter this world cursed with a sin nature.
- Left to ourselves, we will walk a road that leads to destruction.
- Hell, and the Lake of Fire are not mere annihilation, but an eternity of torment.
It’s a grim scenario.
But there is an answer. It’s the gospel – GOOD NEWS! There is a way of escape. God has provided a means of salvation. To accept the salvation God offers through Christ goes against the corrupted logic of men. However, to accept the softened doctrines of any other faith is to doom the soul to a “yoke of iron” driving them into destruction.
