Ezekiel 17:24 (KJV) Beyond the Smoke

Ezekiel 17:24 (KJV)

And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

This chapter sounds remarkably similar to the parable of the mustard seed.

Matthew 13:31-32 (KJV)

Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

I see in the chapter the tree Satan, Anti-Christ, and the religions of the world attempt to plant.

(Vs 1-10).

Though it appears at first to prosper, it is eventually plucked up.

There is some application and interpretation given, along with another parable about a vine in verses 11-21.

I see second in the chapter another tree the LORD of heaven plants.

(vs 22-24)

Though its beginnings are humble, it in fact succeeds.

The chapter concludes with what I believe is the lesson of the whole Bible: Satan, though seemingly beautiful, attracts people with what appears to be riches, popularity, knowledge, and health. In fact, it is all temporary and fake. It fades away and dies along with those who are deceived by it. God, on the other hand, appears to offer what is humble, low, and dry. But in the end, these are the branches that flourish. Why would it be so? It’s because the world we currently live in is corrupted. Those things that are genuinely lovely, true, and flourishing are “hidden” behind a smoked glass. They are more wonderful than anything in this world.[1] But they appear shiny because we are currently on the same side of the glass.

Death is a reality.

The question is, will it transport you to the other side of the glass? Jesus rose from the grave and promises to all who believe and trust Him that’s where they’ll be.

Take the shiny but temporary things on this side or else the things on the other side of the glass. It’s your choice. But you can’t have both and you can only have what’s on the other side through faith in Christ.
