Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
The word ignorant means “not to know.” More importantly for our context, Strong’s Concordance says it means “to ignore.”
I am afraid far too many simply ignore the truths of the Word of God. They ignore the evidence of creation, preferring instead to rely on the ever-changing theories of evolution. They ignore the evidences of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, preferring instead to think religion is fine for some but not for themselves. They ignore the fulfilled prophecies of Scripture, preferring instead to think of it as a book filled with sentimental superstition.
Some professing Christians ignore the teachings of the Bible concerning spiritual gifts, preferring instead to be carried about by their feelings. The apostle wanted them to be aware, awake, alert—he did not want them “not to know” that being carried away like that was to be carried away by a different spirit than that of God.
Idols are dumb and useless. But there are other spirits in this world: dark, evil, ungodly spirits. Professing Christians must be aware so that the things they claim as spiritual gifts don’t serve to curse rather than to bless Christ and His people.
