By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
The will of God is a recurring theme in this chapter.
- Jesus came to do the will of God.
- That will was to offer “one sacrifice for sins forever.”
- It is by that will of God that we are sanctified—saved.
Knowing our salvation is the will of God, purchased through Christ’s sacrifice, and knowing that in His sacrifice there is such remission of sins that God promises never to remember them again, we are called to respond. God tells us to come boldly before Him with a pure conscience, to assemble together faithfully, to hold fast our profession without wavering, and, finally, to do the will of God ourselves.
We do not do the will of God to be saved; we do the will of God because we are saved, so that His work of perfecting and maturing us as believers might be accomplished.
