Deuteronomy 6:7 (KJV)
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
The text is preceded with this command:
Deuteronomy 6:6 (KJV)
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.
- It’s not in thy head.
- It’s not on thy wall.
- It’s not tattooed on your skin.
- It’s not even in thy mouth.
It must be in your heart before anything else matters.
Religious people often show off their “faith” by wearing crosses around their necks, plastering bumper stickers on their cars, hanging plaques and pictures in their homes, or—these days—getting religious tattoos. Some are loud, aggressive, and critical of those who don’t agree with them. Nearly everyone, except those like them, can see the hypocrisy. Their actions, symbols, and words don’t match their heart.
Mind you, I’m not saying all of those things are wrong (except the tattoos—Scripture clearly warns against this pagan practice). What I’m saying is this: it starts in the heart.
We need a revival of believers who can’t stop talking about God’s Word, can’t stop thinking about it, can’t stop teaching it, and can’t stop living it out.
But that revival will only happen when His words are first in our hearts.
