And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
A Reason to Weep
The Word of God says Jesus beheld the city of Jerusalem and began to weep:
“Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.”
If only they could have seen Who it was before them and what He offered them!
Oh, the plans God has for Jerusalem—the peace that will one day come upon it and from it, the Presence that will one day dwell within it, the wealth that will one day belong to it.
But at that moment, all was hidden from their eyes. They would miss it all because they were blind to their Christ.
We have reason to weep for souls as well. When we consider all the promises of God available to those who come to Christ as Savior—the forgiveness of sin, fellowship with God, a future in heaven, the inheritance of the saints, eternal joy awaiting—how can we not weep for those who, through hardness of heart and spiritual blindness, will miss it?
It’s not that they have no opportunity. Just as Jesus was in the very midst of Jerusalem, souls today have the witness of believers, the chance to attend sound churches, and the Word of God readily available. Yet it remains hidden from their eyes.
There is a reason to weep—but also a reason to pray, and a reason to speak up for the Lord.
Jerusalem rejected Christ and, just a few short decades later, was torn to the ground. Those who reject Christ will, unless they quickly repent, face devastation in hell beyond imagination.
But we know God will raise up a New Jerusalem. And we know that God will save any and all who will humbly call out to Christ and believe upon Him.

A Tear for the Lost: He Wept—And We Should Too
📖 Have you ever wondered why Jesus wept over Jerusalem? He saw a city blinded to peace, missing the very Savior who stood before them. The same truth still speaks today—many see religion but miss redemption.
