Revelation 16:15 (KJV)
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
This verse is obviously parenthetical. It is inserted by the Lord to remind the reader to be prepared. Think of it like this, Jesus Christ is revealing to John things that are future. Everything we read will take place in a day:
- Future to John,
- Future to those seven churches referenced in the beginning and
- Future to you and me reading this previous to the Tribulation period
We are reading of suffering and pain and of death. We are reading of judgments and of the wrath of God.
Then, for a brief moment, Jesus takes us back to our own circumstances and reminds us this will all happen suddenly and unexpectedly.
- There is right now opportunity for blessing
- There is opportunity right now for preparation and readiness
- There is opportunity right now of salvation and of righteousness with the Lord
The point of telling us what lies in the future is not that we be terrified of it but that we be saved from it.
Come to Christ and be saved.
