Matthew 2:8 (KJV) Bowing Down

Matthew 2:8 (KJV)

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

Herod would soon believe he had been mocked by the wise men when, obeying the Lord, they departed another way without returning to him. Yet in truth, Herod was mocking them first when he said, “that I may come and worship Him also.”

Our world is filled with mockery of Christ.

  • Some mock His deity.
  • Some mock His Word.
  • Some mock His miracles.

And beyond this, there is mockery even in forms of worship.

  • They mock Him by mixing paganism with worship.
  • They mock Him by mixing worldliness with worship.
  • They mock Him by mixing contemporary theology with worship.

In the end, they mock Him because they put themselves above Him as god.

Worship of Christ is always a mockery, unless it is in absolute submission to Him.

Bowing Down: Herod’s Pretense and the World’s Deception

Are you searching for Bible answers about true worship vs. false worship? Herod claimed he wanted to worship Christ (Matthew 2:8), but his heart was full of deceit. Many today still mock Christ in worship—by mixing worldliness, paganism, or man-made traditions. The truth is simple: real worship is absolute submission to Jesus Christ alone.

Matthew 2:8 (KJV) Bowing Down

Numbers 29:39 (KJV) Besides…

Numbers 29:39 (KJV)

These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.

Notice the word beside.

Our text describes the series of feasts among the Jews:

  • The Feast of Trumpets
  • The Day of Atonement
  • The Feast of Tabernacles

These were holy days. We’ve shortened that term today into “holidays.”

While there were prescribed days of rest—times when no servile work was to be done (that is, work performed out of obligation, debt, or gratitude)—what stands out to me is the sheer burden of work involved in these feasts.

Numbers 29:6 (KJV)
Beside the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

During the feasts they had to keep up with:

  • The monthly sacrifice,
  • The daily sacrifice,
  • And everything else in addition.

It reminds me of coming back from vacation. I keep up an active life, and it’s not as though the work stops while I’m away. It waits. No—it piles up—until I return. When I step back into my office, I must catch up on everything left undone besides what normally belongs to that day.

That is why the word rest, and the related word peace, are so important to New Testament faith. Christ has already done all the work needed for our relationship with God. There is nothing left for us to do but rest peacefully in Him.

Yes, in this world we will have tribulation, and in the harvest fields now ripening there is work for us to do. But as far as our standing with God is concerned, the work is finished. Our place is to trust Him.

John 14:27 (KJV)
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Besides… The Work Is Done

Are you carrying the weight of life’s “besides” — all the things that never stop piling up? The Old Testament feasts remind us how endless the work was. But Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you” (John 14:27). He finished the work of salvation — all that’s left is to rest in Him. ✝️

Revelation 22:20 (KJV) Looking for the Uppertaker

Revelation 22:20 (KJV)

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I was thinking—the first person who said, “I’m not looking for the undertaker. I’m looking for the Uppertaker!” eventually met the undertaker. He’s dead and buried. Who knows how many who repeated this phrase have also had their appointment with the undertaker? (The line has been preached by many well-known voices—Raymond Barber, Adrian Rogers, David Jeremiah, J. Harold Smith, Willie Mullan, Maze Jackson, and even attributed by some to Alexander Maclaren. Over time it has become a kind of “preacher’s proverb.”)

I’ve often said, I’ll not be disappointed if the Lord does not return in my lifetime—because I understand the point and purpose of the Lord’s timing in this matter. But I’ll not be surprised if He comes tomorrow—because I believe the promise is imminent and because I recognize that the signs of the times point to Christ’s return.

The older I grow, however, the easier it is to expect to enter heaven by way of the grave rather than the rapture. There was a man in the church I pastored in Astoria, OR, who once woke his wife while he was dreaming. She was startled to find him jumping up and down, still in his sleep, on the bed. She called to him, “Mike, what are you doing?” He responded, “Rapture practice.” We laughed and spoke about rapture practice many times since then. Mike has since passed into eternity. I’ll meet him in the resurrection but not the rapture.

Here’s the point: No matter how many centuries go by, or how many children of God “sleep in the Lord” and miss the rapture, the promise of Christ is still true: “Surely I come quickly.” So the believer is justified in praying, “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

Looking for the Uppertaker: Rapture or Resurrection—The Promise Remains

🚨 Bible Question for You: Do you believe Jesus could return in our lifetime—or do you expect to meet Him through death first? Revelation 22:20 promises: “Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

Generations of believers have repeated the phrase, “I’m not looking for the undertaker, I’m looking for the Uppertaker!”—yet many have already met the undertaker. Still, the promise of Christ’s coming remains certain.

Revelation 21:5 (KJV) The Potter’s Final Work

Revelation 21:5 (KJV)

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Ever since the fall of Adam—in fact, even before it, before the foundations of the world—it has been both the intent of God and the necessity of all things that they be made new. The flood proved that simple reformation was insufficient. God even hinted at starting over with Moses, but such a plan would not have worked.

The metaphor of the potter and the clay addresses God’s greater plan. He does more than make new creatures of us. As the potter, He will begin again and form a new Jerusalem, new heavens, and a new earth. If you think of us as the clay He uses in shaping these “all things new,” you begin to grasp the necessity of such long, drawn-out measures before the new creation begins.

This process has included the creation and fall of Adam and Eve, the rebellion of Lucifer—the tool of deception, their removal from the garden and the tree of life, the corruption of their children and descendants, the calling of a man through whom the Saviour would come, and all the spiritual and practical lessons we learn from them. It continued through the coming of the Saviour, His rejection and crucifixion, the calling out of Christians, the founding of churches, and the distortions that arose through universal theology. Still ahead are the future Tribulation, the Millennial Kingdom, and the final battle at the end of that reign.

All of it has been known by God; graciously endured, and carefully orchestrated under the hands of our Almighty Potter, with this final goal: “Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

Something beautiful can only be created through planning, preparation, and careful craftsmanship. What God will bring forth at the end of time will be more beautiful than we can possibly imagine. Don’t let a lack of faith cause you to miss it.

The Potter’s Final Work: God’s Promise of a New Heaven and Earth

🌟 “Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5) ðŸŒŸ
God’s Word promises a new heaven and a new earth, carefully crafted by the hands of the Potter. From the fall of Adam to the cross of Christ, everything points to His final work of renewal.

Revelation 20:4 (KJV) Blessed Before His Throne

Revelation 20:4 (KJV)

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

I view John as representative of the church-age believer. The Lord is showing him things that must shortly come to pass, though they have not yet happened. That is what we experience when we read the Revelation—we are peering into the future. We do not fully understand it; many events and images are beyond our ability to conceive. Yet we believe it to be true, and we are certain of its coming.

At this point John declares, “And I saw thrones….” He looks into the future and sees what we sometimes call “the consummation of all things.” The plan of God is about to be completed. What we have read of, preached about, longed for, and hoped for is just about to happen.

“And I saw thrones…” Men make much of their own authority. They manipulate, force, coerce, and impose their wills upon others. They connive and contrive, they plot and plan, seeking to rule the affairs of life.

But God sets up and casts down authority. One day, it will shortly come to pass that the only throne that matters is the one He sits upon.

Blessed are those who have bowed only before His throne.

Blessed Before His Throne: Bowing to the Throne That Lasts

👑 Whose throne are you bowing before? Revelation 20:4 reminds us that while men boast in their authority, only God’s throne will remain. Every earthly crown crumbles, but those who bow before Christ will reign with Him.

🔎 Are you searching for real Bible answers about the end times, prophecy, and God’s plan for the future? The Word of God is clear—true blessing belongs only to those who bow before His throne.

💬 Question for you: Do you believe Christ’s throne is the only one that matters? Share your thoughts in the comments!
