Revelation 22:4 (KJV) I Am One of Them

Revelation 22:4 (KJV)
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
There is no explanation of who the “they” are. Gill writes “not only the angels … but all the saints.” This seems to be the implied reality.
TheyA numberless group whose sins have been forgiven by the blood of Christ.
TheyFrom every nation a kindred and people and tribe.
TheyFrom differing periods of time having totally different cultural preferences.
TheyOnce interested only in themselves but being saved now fully interested in Christ.
I don’t know even a fraction of those who are part of the “they”. But I am thankful that I have the assurance I am one of them.

Revelation 21:1 (KJV) No More Sea?

Revelation 21:1 (KJV)
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Isn’t it interesting that a key feature of the new heaven an new earth is that there is no more sea? There are a few things that this brings to mind:
The first state of our present earth was without seas.It was the violent upheaval of the Flood when the oceans and seas were formed.
Seas are turbulent and full of unpredictable troubleNo such turbulence will exist in eternity.
Biblically seas are typological of the masses of people.Perhaps this is an indication of final unity among peoples. Ever since Cain killed his brother Abel, there has been division, differences and disagreement among men. We have different languages, cultures, tastes, beliefs and etc. We divide our properties and we protect our national borders. We have to. The sin nature makes it so.
Eternity will realize the desire of even unregenerate man; unity and peace among all.

Revelation 20:1-2 (KJV) The Real Power of Satan

Revelation 20:1-2 (KJV)
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
I am reminded of Jude 1:9
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
In ages, previous to the Tribulation, even the archangel would not contend with Satan in his own power. Here we are, in this text, at the end of the Tribulation and an angel “laid hold” of the devil.
Satan is a powerful enemy today but his power only exists because it serves a greater purpose and God temporarily allows it. In time his authority and power will be so removed that an angel, not the archangel, lays hold of him to cast him into the pit.
Satan is a reality and believers ought to resist him. But Christians need not dread contending with him so long as we are in the power of the Lord.
He only has the strength that God allows.

Revelation 19:4-5 (KJV) A Voice From the Throne

Revelation 19:4-5 (KJV)
And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
God sat on the throne and a voice came out of the throne.
A natural interpretation would tell us that an inanimate throne did not speak. Either this means:
  • It seemed to come from the throne but came in reality from nearby the throne or else
  • The throne is not a physical structure but a living type.
I want to meditate upon the latter a moment. Could the throne upon which God sits be symbolic of those over which He reigns?
  • The throne speaks in plural (our God)
  • The throne claims possession of God and
  • The throne urges praise upon others within and without itself.
God needs no rest as men do; yet He rested on the seventh day. God needs nowhere to sit; yet He possesses a throne. God needs no one to rule; yet He is sovereign over heaven and earth.

Revelation 18:4 (KJV) Who Possess Eternal Life

Revelation 18:4
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
From Sodom and Gomorrah to the final days of the Tribulation, God consistently and compassionately calls those who are sinners, lost and destined for judgment to come out of the world and be saved.
The trap of the world’s system is that it appears to be reality. It seems:
  • Strong,
  • Prosperous
  • Enlightened and therefore
  • Correct
It is the way of the majority. It is the path that seems straight and the way that looks like it leads to success.
But it is a deceitful trail that ends in destruction.
Faith turns onto a different way. Trusting Jesus, the One:
  • Prophesied of in the Old Testament,
  • Demonstrated in the Gospels and
  • Proven in His death, burial and resurrection,
a handful heed the voice of God and come out of the world.
It will be they alone who possess eternal life.

Revelation 17:1 (KJV) Talking With the Angels

Revelation 17:1 (KJV)
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
The subject of this chapter is intense and it is important. The prophetic nature of the chapter, as well as the context of judgment must not be ignored. But permit my thoughts just now to dwell on another form of wonderment; that a man could simply talk with an angel.
This is a heavenly scene. It’s not one that is duplicated, at least in this literal of a sense, in our age. But every indication is that this will be a natural and normal event in eternity.
Imagine talking with the angels!
  • The wisdom
  • The experiences
  • The insights
that we might gain from such conversations will be incredible.
Notice the casual tone of the verse. Though the subject is far from laid back, the angel came to talk with John and John engaged in the conversation as if it were commonplace.
I don’t imagine that we can imagine half of what heaven will be. This verse hints at just one of those heavenly wonders that belong to those who are saved and for whom a place is prepared in heaven.

Revelation 16:15 (KJV) Right Now

Revelation 16:15 (KJV)
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
This verse is obviously parenthetical. It is inserted by the Lord to remind the reader to be prepared. Think of it like this, Jesus Christ is revealing to John things that are future. Everything we read will take place in a day:
  • Future to John,
  • Future to those seven churches referenced in the beginning and
  • Future to you and me reading this previous to the Tribulation period
We are reading of suffering and pain and of death. We are reading of judgments and of the wrath of God.
Then, for a brief moment, Jesus takes us back to our own circumstances and reminds us this will all happen suddenly and unexpectedly.
  • There is right now opportunity for blessing
  • There is opportunity right now for preparation and readiness
  • There is opportunity right now of salvation and of righteousness with the Lord
The point of telling us what lies in the future is not that we be terrified of it but that we be saved from it.
Come to Christ and be saved.

Revelation 15:3-4 (KJV) This Is What Music SHOULD Do

Revelation 15:3-4 (KJV)
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Singing is an act of worship. That singing which is in heaven is the purest form of this worship. Here we have those in heaven singing:
About Gods worksThey are great and marvelous.
About Gods waysThey are just and true.
About Gods characterHe is holy.
About Gods judgmentsThey are manifest.
The result is that men fear God and glorify His name and they come to worship Him.
It is ridiculous that any would not.

Revelation 14:6-10 (KJV) Angelic News

Revelation 14:6-10 (KJV)
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
The word angel means messenger and these three angels deliver a message appropriate for any age:
There is some good newsThe Gospel is good news. It is everlasting, meaning that its effect is everlasting and its relevance is too. There is no age when it becomes of no value.
There is some bad newsBabylon is fallen. At least it is bad for Babylon. For the believer it is victorious news. God has won.
There is some cautionary newsThe warning comes, not to compromise faith with devilishness. The victory belongs to the believer but the battle isn’t over.
The three angels deliver their messages during the Tribulation but they are no less meaningful today.
  • Accept the good news and be saved
  • Rejoice in the victory that belongs to the Christian and
  • Refuse to compromise your faith with the ideas of this world

Revelation 13:1 (KJV) Blasphemy

Revelation 13:1 (KJV)
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
Blasphemy.
The word means “vilification” and is directed especially against God. Over the centuries it has been used to describe all manner of actions, many unjustly and often against those who honestly attempted to glorify God.
Naboth was executed at the mere accusation (and that false) that he had blasphemed.
There is a blasphemy of the Holy Ghost whereby one, I believe, rejects the conviction of sin and of the Saviour, and is therefore lost.
But this beast wears the name of blasphemy. Exactly what that name is we are not told.
Pulpit Commentary writes,
” It is a “name of blasphemy;” that is, the worldly power, typified by this beast, denies the Divinity and might of the true God, and exalts itself above him.”
The nature of blasphemy is to deny the power of the true God. It is especially practiced among the leaders of the world.

Revelation 12:16 (KJV) Environmentally Friendly

Revelation 12:16 (KJV)
And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
The earth has been ravaged by the curse just as mankind has. It is because of the curse that we have natural disasters such as:
  • Earthquakes
  • Tornadoes
  • Tsunamis
  • Volcanoes
  • Floods
  • Etc
Though huge numbers of people die by these disasters, the earth that generates them is not our enemy.
The earth helps us by providing the very products we use to protect ourselves from disasters.
  • The food
  • The water
  • The shelter
that sustains our lives is delivered to us by this earth. (It is God that gives them and the earth that delivers them.)
Our enemy is Satan. He always has been. He may get us to focus on the things we see, like a flood, but the problem is Satan.
Our great need today is to solve the spiritual problem. The environment, issues like climate change, endangered species and fuel shortages are only symptoms (and those, misrepresented) of the true problem.
Turn people to Christ and the Lord will turn the earth in our favor.

Revelation 11:1-2 (KJV) With What We Measure?

Revelation 11:1-2 (KJV)
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
The angel gave the rod to John by which he could measure things, not in heaven, but obviously still of this earth. Gill offers an interesting consideration and suggests that the rod may typify the Word of God, which had been the subject of the previous chapter. It is with God’s Word we measure or judge the work of God on earth.
John is instructed to measure three things:
  • The temple of God
  • The altar and
  • Those that worship at it
Typology always breaks down at this point because it becomes the work of the imagination of the student to assign our points to the types. My practice to avoid problems in this regard is to remember that, unless the Bible interprets the types, our own interpretations are merely suggestions. They cannot be held too dogmatically.
The temple of GodFits easily as a type of the churches. Though they were removed in chapter four, this could take us back previous to the rapture. The nature of a church ought not be judged by its size, the pastor’s popularity the church’s programs or anything of that nature. God gives us the Word of God so we can measure our church next to that.
The altarMay be a picture of the Gospel preached in the church. Is it clear, repeated often and appealed to passionately?
The people at the altarMay be a picture of the sacrifice and dedication of the members of the church.  Is there a difference between the thing preached and the thing practiced in the church?
The only measure by which to fairly judge the work of God is the Word of God.
There was an instruction not to measure outside the temple because it belonged to the Gentiles. Those who are not saved are not to be judged by Bible teaching. They are to be judged in only one way, are they lost? If so, attempt to reach them. Don’t condemn them for a doctrine they have little knowledge of and no power to keep.

Ezekiel 35:5 (KJV) Get Rid of That Grudge

Ezekiel 35:5 (KJV)
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
The subject of the passage is Mount Seir or the Edomites, the descendants of Esau. Though Jacob and Esau seemed to have resolved their differences, the children of Esau carried a perpetual grudge.
  • They never forgave
  • They never sought peace
Even when it became obvious that Israel had been
  • Humbled,
  • Chastened and
  • Judged
for her iniquities, even when reasonable antagonists would have been pacified, Seir remained hateful. God’s judgment would turn against them because of it.
Holding a grudge is always much worse on the one holding it than the one against whom it is held.

Ezekiel 33:2-7 (KJV) Be A Watchman

Ezekiel 33:2-7 (KJV)
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
The watchman was taken among the people to care for and warn the people. The judgment was from God. Whatever calamity they faced would be righteous and just. But the watchman isn’t called to judge the people. He is called to watch and to warn them.
God calls every Christian to be a watchman.
Every soul we speak to deserves whatever judgment God brings upon them but it is not our job to choose who should and shouldn’t be warned. We know that most people will reject our warning. That is up to them to do if they choose. Our place is to warn them. Our place is to give them opportunity to be saved. What they do with that opportunity is between them and God.
We must simply not be guilty of judging them unworthy of hearing the warning.

Revelation 9:4 (KJV) God’s Laws Apply to All

Revelation 9:4 (KJV)
And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
We often think of:
  • Satan
  • Devils and
  • Those who reject God
as being without law.
Somehow, in our heads, we have the idea that to reject the morality of God and the laws of His Word is tantamount to being free of God and of law.
That is the furthest thing from the truth. Satan, devils and even those men who openly deny God are every bit as subject to His commandments as the faithful believer. There are lines they know that even they must not cross. Even those lines they believe they are perfectly just in crossing carry consequences they are unable to get out of.
Satan is no more powerful than God permits.
Neither are the devils.
Nor are those who deny Him.

Revelation 8:1-4 (KJV) Earnest Christians Ought to Pray

Revelation 8:1-4 (KJV)
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
Perhaps more than any other part of the book of the Revelation the seven trumpet judgments represent the terrible judgment of God in the Tribulation. I do not want to seem dogmatic about this, it is merely a suggestion, but allow me to represent the trumpet judgments as the whole of the Tribulation:
It is preceded with silence in heaven. These are days when it can seem like heaven is silent. Evil men are waxing worse and truly good men are hounded as evil.
It sees heaven urging and then intently hearing the prayers of saintsToday is no time to hold back our prayers. We must pray and we must do so fervently.
And then the trumpet soundsThe first sound of the trumpet, though not reflected in this passage, calls the believers to heaven. All born again Christians are removed from the earth before judgment begins.
The more silent heaven seems right now, the more earnest Christians ought to pray because the closer Christ’s return must surely be.

Revelation 7:9 (KJV) The Good News Is…

Revelation 7:9 (KJV)
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
There are more people who are lost in this world than we who are saved can imagine.
  • Of the seven billion people in the world, less than two percent, I understand, profess to be Christian.
  • Of those who profess to be Christian, the majority, I understand, do so in contrast to Islam. They only claim to be Christian to make it clear that they are not Muslim.
  • Of those who practice a form of Christianity, most of them are part of a ritualistic system like Catholicism, or a mainline Protestant denomination
  • Of those who participate in a Christianity that encourages a relationship with Christ many, like the Churches of Christ, are confused about the Gospel.
Even in churches where the gospel is clearly preached huge numbers of people allow pride to keep them from submissive faith in Christ. In other words, only a small minority of the people who have ever lived have been saved.
But there is good news.
According to this passage, there are more people saved and in heaven than we can imagine.
  • Over the centuries,
  • Down through the ages,
  • In parts of the world where we had no clue there were followers of the true and living God
God has had His witnesses and multitudes have come to faith.
The majority of people who have ever lived have been lost. But that does not mean heaven will be nearly empty. Untold numbers of souls will fellowship forever in eternal life with Christ.

Revelation 6:3 (KJV) Come and See

Revelation 6:3
And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
As the seals are opened judgments happen. The horse riders are first four seals are not good news for the people of earth. There is war, and death and famine and hell, all as a direct result of these judgments.
Yet the Apostle is urged “Come and see.”
The Christian is not to dread the future, even that of the lost. We cannot serve the lost if we remain blind to their eventual fate.
